While the rest of the world is baking cookies and creating holiday food gifts for their friends and families for Christmas, I decided to mosey into the kitchen and make some treats for my pups.
You see, I gave up on Christmas this year.
With my knee replacement surgery in October, the past two months have been filled with pain pills, countless physical therapy appointments, exercises that would take me to the point of tears and lots of time on the recliner. All my shopping was done online and thank goodness for friends and family for their assistance, good meals and good wishes over the last two months.
I’m almost out of the woods and was excited to spend some time in the kitchen yesterday – so were my pups!
This is such a wonderfully wholesome recipe and so easy to make! I swear from the moment I started, my pups knew it was for them as they waited patiently near the kitchen for their goodies to be done!
This is also a good way to use up those overripe bananas…
Add a handful of chopped peanuts and you’re almost there!
Combine whole wheat flour, baking soda, and chopped peanuts in a bowl. Make a well and add pureed bananas, one egg, vanilla and vegetable oil.
Knead dough with hands (it will be stiff) and slowly add water until it comes together to form a workable dough. I ended up using 5 tablespoons of water.
Roll with hands into 7″ x 2″ rolls. Slightly flatten tops with hands until 1″ high.
Bake at 325 degrees for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool for 10 minutes.
Slice logs into 1/2 – 3/4 inch pieces.
Place on baking sheet and bake again for 20 minutes until golden brown.
What you get is crunchy, little bites of wholesome goodness for your four legged friends!
The pups in my life are the only ones getting homemade goodies this year!
